The Rabbit Who Wanted Everything

Hello, everyone.

The story that I am going to tell you today is about a rabbit who was jealous of all the animals. He wanted to have everything. One day a fairy grants all his wishes and then see what happens. Is he happy or not?

Read on and find out for yourselves. I had read this story when I was a little girl. It is one of my favourite stories.

The Rabbit Who Wanted Everything

Once upon a time, there was a little rabbit in the forest. He was jealous of everyone.

He was jealous of the giraffe’s long neck and long legs. He wished he had a neck and legs like that he would be so happy.

He was jealous of the elephant’s ears and the long trunk. He wished he had ears like that he would be so happy.

He was jealous of the bird’s wings. He wished he had wings so he could fly like a bird and then he would be so happy.

He was also jealous of the owl’s big eyes. He wished he could have those he would be so happy.

He sighed and he sighed and wished and wished with all his heart.

Now, one day a fairy was passing by and heard him sighing and wishing. So the fairy went to him and asked what the problem was?

The little rabbit sighed again and told her everything he wished to have. The fairy listened to him. Then she told him to she would grant all his wishes! The rabbit was so delighted to hear that and told her what he wanted. The fairy granted all his wishes.

Now this little rabbit had long legs and long neck like the giraffe.

He had big ears and a long trunk like the elephant.

He had wings like a bird.

He had big eyes like an owl.

He was delighted with all the gifts. The fairy told him to call her whenever he needed her and left.

Now the rabbit having all the gifts wanted to go and show them to his mother. But what’s this? When he tried to move he found it extremely difficult. He felt himself very heavy. The trunk and the ears and the neck were very heavy for his little body! Tried as he would he just couldn’t move. He tried to fly but even that he couldn’t do as he had become so heavy.

He started crying now. He did not know what to do. Then he remembered that the fairy had told him to call her when he needed her and so he did. The fairy came at once.

“What’s the problem now, little rabbit?” she asked.

“I can’t move,” he said, “I feel so heavy.”

“Well, what do you want me to do?” the fairy asked.

“Well, maybe if you took away the trunk I will feel lighter and then be able to move,” he suggested.

And so the fairy took away his trunk. The rabbit tried to move but it was still very difficult. Then, he suggested the ears the fairy did that but still he couldn’t move freely. One by one, he suggested to the fairy to take away all his gifts except the wings. The rabbit said he would keep those. The fairy bid him goodbye and went away telling to call her if he needed her again.

The little rabbit delighted with his wings went to show them to his mother. He went home and knocked on the door. His mother opened the door.

“Look, Mother,” he said, “I have wings now just like the birds!”

His mother looked at him and did not recognize him.

“Who are you?” she asked him.

“I am your little rabbit, remember?” he said, scared.

“I am sorry I don’t know you,” said his mother. “My son does not have wings.”

The little rabbit tried to argue with his mother but she just wouldn’t let him in.

The little rabbit started crying and went away again to the spot where he had met the fairy. He sobbed and he sighed and he called the fairy.

    The fairy came once again.

“What do you want now?” she asked. “Aren’t you satisfied with your wings?”

“I love my wings but my mother does not recognize me,” he lamented. “Please, take these away too.”

“Very well,” said the fairy and took away the wings as well.

The rabbit felt much better now. He no longer felt heavy and overwhelmed. He felt like himself again.

“I hope you have learnt your lesson now,” said the fairy. “You should never envy anybody. They have what is right for them. You have what is right for you. Besides, you are such an adorable little rabbit. You have such lovely ears and lovely eyes. Why do you want anything more? I’m sure everyone loves you just as you are.”

“Yes, I have learnt my lesson,” said the little rabbit in a voice filled with relief and then said gratefully, “Thank you so much for teaching me this lesson.”

The fairy waved him goodbye and went away.

The little rabbit was never envious of anybody now and was grateful for what he had.

The Ugly Cow

Hello, everyone.
First of all I want to apologize to you all for not bringing you any stories for so long. It was a writer’s block. I just could not think up any stories.
Anyways, suddenly I remembered this story I had read when I was a little girl. I don’t know if it is a Greek story or if it is a folktale. I loved this story so I decided to share it with you all.
I have one request though if you like this story then please, write a comment below and let me know. I would love to know.

The Ugly Cow

Once upon a time, there was a farmer. He had many cows on his farm. They were all well fed fat and gave a lot of milk. Now, there was one cow who was very thin and she was lame. One of her legs was crooked and she was rather weak. She was not able to give lots of milk like the other cows but she was friendly and happy all the time. She was also a very kind hearted cow. Everybody loved her. Her name was Daisy.
One day, the farmer came and milked the cows and when he milked Daisy she was not able to give as much milk as the other cows. The farmer thought of selling her at a very cheap price. He thought of her as a very useless cow.
As he was milking Daisy he started talking to one of his farmhands nearby, “We ought to get rid of this cow,” he said. “She is useless. She doesn’t even give much milk. I think I am going to get rid of her tomorrow.”
His worker agreed with him. So the farmer decided to do just that the very next day.
Now Daisy and all the other cows heard that and they were all sad. How can the farmer be so cruel?
As soon as the farmer was gone the cows started to talk.
“Oh dear,” said one cow, “What are we going to do?”
“This is not fair,” said the other.
“You are so kind, Daisy,” said yet another one tearfully, “I remember when you had saved my calf from that dog. I will never forget you.”
“Yes, we will miss you so much, Daisy,” said the first one sadly.
That night everyone went to sleep wishing they could do something for Daisy.
That night, the fairy folk were having a party for the queen. All was going well when one of the elves accidentally spilled all the milk. They were going to use this milk to make caramel pudding which the queen loved so much. The fairy folk were horrified!
What should they do and the queen would be there in just about two hours? Everybody started to panic. Then someone had an idea to go and ask the cows for some milk in the nearby farm. Now this farm happened to be the one where Daisy was.
And so, some of them went to that farm. They came and requested the cows to give them some milk but they all refused because they did not want to end up like Daisy. If they gave milk then they wouldn’t be able to give more milk in the morning. The fairies begged but no-one agreed. Now Daisy was watching all this.
“You can have my milk,” she said. “After all the farmer is going to get rid of me tomorrow so why shouldn’t I help you. It will make no difference to the farmer.”
The fairies were so happy and relieved to hear this. They milked Daisy and went away happily. They thanked her again and again.
The fairies made the caramel pudding and when the tasted it she was delighted. It was so delicious. She asked the fairies where they had gotten the milk and they told her where they got it. When the fairy heard their story she requested them to take her to Daisy. She was very much touched by the story.
When the queen saw Daisy she felt very sorry for her. She went to Daisy and said some magic words. And lo and behold! Daisy changed completely. One moment there was Daisy, lame and weak and the next she was a beautiful healthy cow!
Everybody was astounded by the change and also delighted. Daisy could not believe her luck. She thanked the queen over and over again.
The next day, when the farmer came to take Daisy away, what did he see? A beautiful cow was standing there instead of a weak lame one. Of course there was no need to get rid of her now.
But the farmer never figured out how Daisy changed overnight.

The Tailor and the Elephant

Hello, everyone.
The story that I am going to tell you today is a funny story. It’s about a tailor and an elephant. The tailor wanted to know what would happen if he pricked an elephant with a needle. Would the elephant feel pain?
    Read on and find out.

The Tailor and the Elephant

Ramu was a tailor. He had a friend called Jaggu. Jaggu had an elephant and he passed Ramu’s shop every morning when he took his elephant Kallu to drink water from the river nearby. Ramu and Jaggu were good friends so when Jaggu passed Ramu’s shop he was bound to stop and have a chat with his friend.
Now Ramu had a problem. Every time that Kallu passed by his shop he wondered what would happen if he pricked that elephant with a needle? He was very curious to know. The elephant was such a huge animal and would it feel the pain like anybody or not? He became so curious as the days went by that he could not stop thinking about it. He could not even sleep at night. He tossed and turned and kept thinking how he could find out. At last he could not bear it anymore and decided he would prick Kallu with a needle the very next day and see what would happen?
So the next day Ramu waited at the door of his shop with a needle in his hand. He hid his hand behind his back so that Jaggu would not see the needle. When Jaggu came he went to greet his friend. They started chatting and as they talked Ramu moved closer and closer to Kallu the elephant and when he was near enough he pricked the elephant in the leg. Kallu just moved his leg and stood there. Then the two friends said goodbye to each other and Ramu went into his shop and Jaggu went on his way to the river. Jaggu had no idea what had happened. Here Ramu was satisfied that the elephant had hardly felt the needle.
Now here Kallu having pricked by a needle was furious. He was calm but he knew exactly what to do. As you know elephants have very good memories. So when Kallu reached the river with Jaggu he had his bath and then he put his trunk in the water to drink. When he had drunk enough water he went to the side where there was plenty of mud. He took up a lot mud in his trunk and waited for Jaggu to lead him home. Soon Jaggu stood up from where he was sitting when he saw that Kallu was ready to leave and led him towards home. Now when they reached Ramu’s shop Kallu headed straight for it.
Ramu was sitting at his sewing machine sewing away busily as Diwali was approaching and he had a lot of clothes to sew. Suddenly he saw Kallu head straight for him. Jaggu tried to stop him but it was in vain. Kallu squirted all the mud on Ramu and backed away. Ramu got all drenched with mud. Not only that the expensive cloth he was stitching also got drenched with mud!
Jaggu was very much surprised at Kallu’s behaviour. Then the next day he got to know from Ramu the whole story when Ramu told it to him shamefacedly.
Jaggu laughed till his sides ached.
So you see children never ever underestimate anybody’s pain. The tailor thought the elephant would not feel any pain but he was so wrong. It is very cruel to treat animals badly.

The Story of Two Brothers

 Hello, everyone.
I am reposting this story as for some reason it has been deleted.
It's the story of two brothers who had some misunderstanding. Read on and find out how they got rid of that misunderstanding.

 THE STORY OF TWO BROTHERS

Once upon a time, there were two brothers who lived in India. They had a grocery shop in one of the villages. The older brother whose name was Mahesh had a very lazy wife and the younger brother whose name was Ramesh had a very hardworking wife. They sold all sorts of foodstuff in their shop, e.g. lentils, beans, rice, sugar and so on. Both the brothers worked very hard.

They both lived in separate houses. They trusted each other very much. The younger brother Ramesh kept the keys to the shop as he always managed to get to the shop very early and open it. The older brother Mahesh would come a bit later.

Now, one day it happened that it was lunch time and both went home. The Mahesh had bought some sweetmeat earlier to take at home and he had forgotten that in the shop. He remembered that when he had nearly reached his home. He wanted the sweetmeat at lunch and so he turned and went to his brother’s house.

He knocked on the door and his sister-in-law opened the door. She welcomed him warmly and led him to the dining room. What he saw there made him stand rooted to the spot. There were all kinds of dishes on the table. There was rice, curry, chapattis and sweet pasta as well. He went very pale and then anger surged in him because he thought that his brother had been stealing from the shop as his wife had cooked so many dishes, but he did not say anything.

“Welcome, Brother!” Ramesh said, warmly. “Have lunch with us.”

Mahesh not wanting to show his anger, just made an excuse.

“No, I’m sorry I can’t have lunch with you,” he said. “My wife will be waiting for me. I just came to ask you to give me the keys as I have forgotten to take my sweetmeat that I bought in the shop.”

“Of course,” said the younger brother. “Here you are. But why do you look so pale? Is anything wrong?”

“No, nothing is wrong;” he said with a wry smile and added scornfully. “What can be wrong when your much loved ones stab you in the back.”

Ramesh did not understand why his brother said such a thing, but he did not say anything and just kept quiet.

Mahesh took the keys and went away.
Now, what had happened? The brothers kept all the sacks of rice, lentils and other stuff on a sort of a wooden platform. When they were serving the customers some of the food was bound to fall down on it. The brothers used to collect all the stuff that had fallen on the platform and divided it between the two and took that home to their wives.

Mahesh was shocked because his wife cooked the same thing every day. The reason being she was a lazy woman and she just tossed all the grains in a pot and boiled them together with some spices. When the older brother asked her why she did not cook anything apart from that she would make an excuse and say, “ How can I cook anything else? All the grains are mixed and it is next to impossible to separate them.”

That is why when he saw his brother Ramesh eating all the good things he thought surely he was stealing from the shop. That is why he commented about being stabbed in the back.

Now Mahesh began to treat his brother Ramesh very badly. He was scornful to him and he took away the keys from him because he thought that he came back later and took all the things that he wanted and that was why his wife was able to cook everything.

Ramesh could not understand Mahesh’s behavior. It upset him and hurt him deeply to think that his own brother should treat him like this when he had done nothing wrong whatsoever.

One day, the rice was almost finished in the shop and Ramesh reminded Mahesh about it.

“Brother, the rice is almost finished in the shop,” he told Mahesh. “Don’t you think we should go and buy that as quickly as possible? We don’t want our customers to turn away.”

“And why shouldn’t it get finished so fast?” He asked with a snort. “The way it is being used by us is enough to finish the whole shop.”

This hurt the younger brother very much. He couldn’t take it anymore.

“Brother, with due respect,” he said, “Why are you being so cruel to me? What have I done to deserve such treatment?”

“Why don’t you ask yourself?” Mahesh replied. “You are enjoying yourself, aren’t you? You are eating all the good food that you steal from the shop.”
“I don’t understand,” replied Ramesh very much, puzzled. “Why would I want to steal when what we share in the evenings is more than enough for us?”

“Well, then, how come your wife is able to cook different kinds of food every day?” Mahesh asked, angrily. “We take all the mixed stuff. The rice and the lentils and everything are all mixed up. Can you explain that?”

Now it dawned on Ramesh why his brother was angry. He smiled at his brother.

“Do you want to know the secret of my wife’s cooking?” Ramesh asked. “You just go to my house in the afternoon and you’ll get the answer.”

That afternoon, Mahesh made an excuse of going to see his sister-in-law on accounts of not seen her for a very long time.

When he reached there he knocked on the door and his brother’s wife opened the door. She welcomed him warmly and offered him a seat. He went inside and he saw something very puzzling there. There was a big round tray on the floor and in this was the entire foodstuff the brothers divided in the evenings. After welcoming the brother she took the tray and sat down with it in her lap. Around her were many small bowls into which she was separating and putting different kinds of grains.

“What are you doing, Sister-in-law?” he asked her.

“I’m separating the grains so that I can cook many kinds of food,” she explained. “I get rice, lentils and wheat by doing that. Once I have separated the wheat from the other grains I will take it to the mill to grind it into flour so that I can make chapattis, you see.”

Mahesh felt as if the earth would give way and he would fall in it. He felt so ashamed of himself. He understood now how his brother was able to eat good food and he couldn’t. His own wife was so lazy she just cooked everything together and did not bother to separate to make anything else. He felt a lump come into his throat and had to swallow hard.

“I think I’ll go now,” he said. “I just came to ask after your health. Goodbye.”

With that he left leaving his sister-in-law very much puzzled. She shrugged her shoulders and carried on with her work.

He went straight to the shop and apologized to his brother for his mistake.

“I am so sorry brother for being so mean to you” he said lowering his head. “It never occurred to me you could do anything with the foodstuff we got. I have gotten tired of eating the same things every day. Sorry brother it won’t happen again.”
“It is alright, brother,” said Ramesh. “It happens. How about if I invited you and my sister-in-law for dinner on Saturday?”
    Mahesh smiled and agreed.
“Thank you, brother” said he. “I would certainly like to come and eat my sister-in-law’s cooking. Who could resist that?”
    Then both the brothers laughed.
From that day onwards, the brothers always asked each other if they were in doubt about anything at all.
