Lazy Little Ratna

Hello, everyone.
The story that I am going to tell you today is my own creation. It is the story of a very lazy little girl called Ratna. She was so lazy that she did not even take a bath!
Read on and find out what happens as a result of her laziness.

Lazy Little Ratna

Once upon a time there was a little girl called Ratna. Ratna was a little six year old girl. She had nice long hair and she loved to play with her doll. The only problem was that she was a very lazy little girl.
She never even helped her mother. Her mother always used to tell her to clean herself, but she never listened. She did not even take a bath! Her mother used to be so tired of telling her to take a bath. Whenever she called her Ratna would just run away and hide herself until her mother got tired of calling her.
One day, she had run away just as always from her mother outside. She went a little way and she saw some girls about her age playing outside their house. They were playing houses and they had their dolls and other things like small cute clay pots and other things. They seemed to be enjoying themselves very much. Ratna decided to join them and she went over to ask them if she could join them.
“Hello, can I play with you?” she asked.
The girls turned around and looked at her. What they saw made them cringe. There stood before them the dirtiest girl they had ever seen. Her hair was standing out as if she had not combed her hair for days. Her face was dirty and had dirt streaks. Her dress was so dirty and her hands and feet had streaks of dirt as well. Worse of all she smelled so bad that the girls who were standing far from her were getting the smell. Even her doll was as dirty as her.
“No, you can’t,” said the eldest of the girls.
    “Why not?” she asked.
The girls looked at one another and then she eldest one spoke up.
“Because you are so dirty and you smell so bad,” she said and they turned to continue playing.
Ratna’s face fell. She wanted to play with them so badly. She saw how they were enjoying themselves. She walked home slowly dragging her feet and went straight to her mother.
“Mother, am I so dirty?” she asked her.
Her mother looked at her for a while.
“Why do you think I have been shouting at you to clean yourself?” she replied. “What happened?”
“I wanted to play with some girls in the neighbourhood and they wouldn’t let me play,” she said. “They said I was dirty and I smelled.”
“Come with me,” her mother said and led her to a mirror.
What Ratna saw in the mirror horrified her! She saw a very dirty little girl standing there with an equally dirty doll in her hand. Her mother was standing beside her and she looked so clean. She felt ashamed of herself. She wished she hadn’t been so lazy.
“Mother, what should I do?” she asked her.
“You will have to clean yourself first,” she replied. “Since you are so dirty let me give you a thorough bath. But you will have to promise me something.”
    “What, Mother?” Ratna asked.
“You will have to promise me to take a bath everyday try to keep yourself as clean as possible,” her mother said. “Also, you will have to stop being lazy. If you promise me then and only then I will give you a bath.”
“I promise, Mother,” she said in a small voice.
And so her mother took her to the bathroom and rinsed and washed her hair and gave her a thorough bath until her skin shone like gold. Next she gave her nice clean clothes to wear and combed and plaited her hair. She looked a completely different girl!
Next she took her dirty doll and washed that as well. Not only that she also washed the doll’s clothes and gave it some fresh clothes!
Then, Ratna’s mother took her in front of the mirror and made her look at herself. Ratna was stunned at the change. There stood a very pretty little girl with a very clean doll in hands and there were dimples in her cheeks when she smiled. What a difference from the dirty little girl to a clean little girl.
“Now, go and tell those girls you want to play with them,” said her mother, smiling. “They will not refuse.”
“Are you sure, Mother?” Ratna asked, doubtfully.
“I am quite sure,” her mother replied, still smiling. “You look so nice and pretty and you smell so nice now.”
And so Ratna went to those girls once again and asked to play with them. The girls didn’t even recognize her and they let her play with them at once.
From that day onwards, Ratna never dodged to take a bath. She has turned over a new leaf completely. She was no longer that lazy little girl. She was always ready to help her mother whenever she could. She had turned into a very sweet little girl.
Next Monday I am going to tell you the story of a little girl with a lot of attitude. Be sure to read it.

The Little Helpers

Hello, everyone.
Today’s story is my own creation. It is a story of a little girl and a little boy. It is a story of kindness and goodwill.
The children are distressed when their mother is not feeling well. How they go about helping her, read on find out.

The Little Helpers

Linda was a ten year old little girl. She had a little brother called Sammy who was eight years old. Although they were naughty sometimes like all little boys and girls they were very good children the rest of the time. They loved their mother and father very much.
One day, their mother was not feeling well. After a few days she got worse and the doctor gave her some medicine and told her to take plenty of rest. She came home and started to worry as to how she would manage all the cleaning and cooking. The children heard her fret and they were very worried about their mother. Linda motioned her brother to follow her in the garden. They went and sat down in their favourite spot, the swing.
“We must do something for Mum,” said Sammy.
“I have an idea,” said Linda her eyes shining. “Why don’t we wake up early in the morning and wash up all the dishes she was unable to do last night? Also, we could make breakfast before Mum or Dad wake up and give them a surprise.”
“Wake up early in the morning?” asked Sammy, doubtfully who loved to sleep.
“Yes, why not?” Linda said, defiantly. “If Mum can wake up early in the morning so why can’t we? Besides, we have holidays right now so it will be very easy for us to help. We could help her all day long.”
“Alright, I will wake up early,” he said. “At what time shall we wake up?”
“Let’s see, Mum wakes up at 6 o’clock in the morning,” she said. “We will have to wake up earlier. We could wake up at 4.30. We will work quietly and when we have finished our jobs we will go to sleep as if nothing has happened. Mum won’t wake us up until later as it is our holidays.”
“Alright,” said Sammy, somewhat excitedly, “then Mum will be so happy to see all her work done.”
“Yes,” said Linda, “that’s the whole point to make Mum happy. I shall keep an alarm for 4.30. And please get up as soon as I wake you.”
    With that they went inside.
The next day, Linda woke up as soon as her alarm went off. Then she went woke up Sammy and together they washed the dishes and made breakfast and cleaned the kitchen.
Just as they were returning to their rooms and they heard their mother’s door opening! They darted quickly to their rooms and just barely closed their doors when their mother came out of her room.
She was confused to smell fried eggs and other breakfast smells.
She looked about but nobody was there. She went into the kitchen and got the surprise of her life! The breakfast was ready and the kitchen was spotless! Everything was in its place. Even the table was laid out for breakfast. At first, she was puzzled as to who could have done it. Then, she smiled.
She crept softly into the room of Linda and she found her fast asleep or at least she was pretending to be fast asleep. Then she went to Sammy’s room. Did she see him open his eyes slightly? She smiled and closed the door.
When the children’s father woke up, their mother told him about the surprise she had that morning. Their father chuckled.
“They are good children,” he said.
“Yes, they are,” said their mother, smiling.
This went on until the children’s mother was well again. They helped her during the day as well. Now, when she was well, the children got a surprise!
Their mother had made a special thanks cake for them and they each had a bicycle that they had been longing to have for a very long time!
The children hugged their mother and thanked her.
“Thank you, children,” she said. “If it hadn’t been for you two I wouldn’t have gotten well so quickly.”
    And their father agreed, wholeheartedly.
That was so sweet, wasn’t it?

The Sweet Tooth of Jenny

Hello, everyone.
The story that I am going to tell you today is my own creation. It is the story of a twelve year old girl who had such a sweet tooth that she became so overweight she almost developed a disease called diabetes. The doctor told her to go on a diet. Did she overcome her cravings for sweet things and follow the diet or did she give in and eat all the unhealthy foods?
    Read on and find out.

The Sweet Tooth of Jenny

Jenny was a twelve year old girl. In lots of ways she was a normal girl. She went to school and she had friends and she went for sleepovers and her friends came over for sleepovers. She did a lot of things but the things she could not do was join sports or anything that required a lot of exercise and effort.
You see, the problem with Jenny was that she loved to eat sweet sugary foods. Her breakfast was cakes and biscuits. Her lunch was chips, sausages, cakes and soda. Her dinner was the same thing. Now, because she ate all this unhealthy food she began to gain weight gradually. There came a time when it was difficult to walk to school which was only about ten minutes away.
Her mother worried and fretted and told her to keep away from these foods but she just would not listen. She never ate any vegetables or fruits.
Another bad habit she had was she was either playing games on her computer or she would sit and watch television all day long when she had her holidays from school.
One day she became very sick. She vomited whatever she ate and had high fever. Her mother took her the doctor.
The doctor examined her and took a blood sample to run some tests. They got some results and were told to come the next day for the other results. The doctor looked at the results of her blood tests and told them that she had a very high infection and gave her some medicines and told them he would see the other results and give her medicines accordingly.
Jenny and her mother went home. Jenny started taking the medicines that the doctor had given her. She stopped vomiting and her fever went down but she was feeling very weak.
The next day, they went to the doctor again for the rest of the results. They took the results from the laboratory and went to the doctor.
The doctor looked at the results and then looked at Jenny for a while.
“Jenny, do you know that your sugar is on the borderline?” he asked her. “Do you eat a lot of sugary foods?”
Jenny looked down and said nothing.
“Yes, doctor, she does,” replied her mother. “I am always telling to stop eating junk foods but she does not listen.”
“Oh dear,” said the doctor, “not only is your blood sugar on the borderline but your cholesterol is also high. Do you know what cholesterol is?”
    She shook her head.
“Cholesterol is something that you get when you eat lots of fatty foods. There are two types of cholesterols. There is good cholesterol and there is bad cholesterol. Now, your good cholesterol is less and your bad cholesterol is high. If you are not careful it will go so high that it can affect your heart.
You are a very young girl, Jenny. I am not going to give any medicines but what I want you to do is eat lots of fruits and vegetables. I trust you will follow the diet that I am going to give you. Do you want to play sports and have fun like the rest of the girls in your school?”
“Yes, doctor,” she replied in a small voice.
“Good,” the doctor said with a smile. “Eat healthy foods and do plenty of exercises. Can you do that?”
   “Yes, I can,” said Jenny.
“Good,” said the doctor and then turned to Jenny’s mother. “Make sure that she eats the right foods. If she does not than I am afraid I will have to give her medicines which she will find it a very nuisance.”
“I will make sure she eats right,” said Jenny’s mother.
    Then they left.
Once home, Jenny went to her room and sat down and started to think things through. She soon realized that what she had been eating was all wrong. She had thought it was ok to eat anything and had thought that her mother had just wanted her eat fruits and vegetables because she and her father ate that. Now she realized that, that was not the case. They were seriously concerned about her health. She decided she would do exactly what the doctor had her to do so that she would be able to join her friends in all their activities.
After thinking things through she went to her mother.
“I am sorry, Mother,” she said, “I did not listen to you. I had been feeling very heavy and not feel like doing anything. I know now why I felt that. From now onwards I will do exactly as you tell me.”
Then she hugged her mother. Her mother laughed with relief and amusement.
“Good girl,” she said and kissed her on her forehead.
From that day onwards Jenny was a different girl. With all the good food and exercise she slimmed down and now she is the captain of her basketball team!

The Clever Princess

Hello, everyone.
The story that I am going to tell you is about a very clever prince and a very clever princess. It is a story based in India. I had read this story in Gujarati a very long time ago. This story has always fascinated me so I thought why not put it in my blog for my dear readers.
And so, here it is. Sit back and enjoy this story.

The Clever Princess

Once upon a time there was a king. He had a most beautiful princess. She was so beautiful that princes and kings came from far and wide to ask for her hand in marriage. Now this princess was very clever. She said she would only marry someone who had a certain skill or talent of work. Many came and they were either not ready to learn or would learn halfway and then got tired and failed.
The king tried to persuade her to agree to one of them as there were some very handsome men with large kingdoms. The princess was adamant if she would marry, she would marry someone who was an expert in some field. Less and less men came now. The king got worried lest his daughter would not be able to find a man suitable to her demands, but he could do nothing.
One day a prince came from a very far off place. When he saw the princess he at once fell in love with her. When he heard that she wanted someone to know at least one skill, he decided he would learn a skill and marry this beautiful princess.
He promised the king that he would do his best and learn a skill and come back within six months and marry the princess. The king was not all that hopeful as many such young men had come made promises and then failed. So he agreed half-heartedly.
Now this prince was very determined and he went to learn carpet weaving. He went to an expert and put his entire mind into doing this job. When he had become an expert he went to king.
The king was very happy to see him. The princess put to a test and he passed and so to the relief of her father she agreed to marry him.
There were great celebrations in the kingdom as she was the only child. When the celebrations were over the princess went away with the prince to his kingdom.
Now as it happened that one day the prince got abducted. The king was beside himself with anger and anxiety. He did not know what to do. The abductors demanded that the king step down the throne. Everybody was worried what would become of the kingdom if the king stepped down. He was a just king and all his subjects loved him and the prince and his wife the princess.
Now let us see what had happened to the prince. He was kidnapped and taken to an underground place. There wasn’t much here except a table, a chair and a lamp. Now in one corner he saw something that brought a shine in his eyes. There was an heirloom! This gave him an idea.
When next his kidnappers came to bring him food he was very polite and asked them if he could use the heirloom. He said he wanted to weave in order to forget his worries and boredom. His captors agreed after some counseling between themselves. Then the prince told them to bring him all the tools he needed which was done.
Now the prince began to weave a rug. He weaved it so beautifully that even his captors were impressed. He told them to sell it to a certain merchant who would give them a lot money for it. Now they were greedy people and agreed.
What they did not know was that this merchant was a close friend of the king and he knew the prince’s handiwork very well. The prince knew that if he saw the rug he would definitely go and show it to the king.
And that is exactly what happened. They took the rug to the merchant and he recognized the prince’s handiwork and took it to the king. The king showed it to his daughter-in-law, the princess.
The princess looked at it closely. She saw that her husband had written a message in another language. He had weaved it in such a way that the letters blended well with the design. She made out the message and told the king where the prince was held prisoner.
The king immediately dispatched his men there and all the kidnappers were caught. The prince returned home safe and sound.
Everybody was happy to see him come home.
Now the prince understood why the princess wanted her husband to have a skill. That skill had certainly saved his life and the kingdom as well!
