Tracy's Good Deed

Tracy’s Good Deed

Tracy walked down the street wondering how she was going to survive for the rest of the week. She had so little money left. She had been out of a job for quite a while now. She had tried very hard to get a job but hadn’t had any luck yet. She was feeling hungry right now and so she was heading towards a bakery to see if she could get something to sustain her until lunch time. Maybe she could get some buns or anything that was filling. As she reached the door an old lady with a cane was entering the bakery. Tracy entered behind her and waited as the old lady looked at all the cakes, biscuits, buns and doughnuts displayed in the glass cupboard.

The old lady asked the price of the chocolate doughnuts and Fatma, the lady behind the counter told her the price. The old lady looked disappointed and said, “That is too expensive for me. Can I please have some buns?”

    Fatma smiled, and said, “Sure.”

Tracy was looking on all this time. She was making her calculations in her head. Suddenly, she made up her mind and waited for her turn.

Fatma put some buns in a paper bag and handed it to her and took the money.

As soon as the old lady was finished Tracy quickly told Fatma that she wanted two chocolate doughnuts and some buns. Fatma looked at her strangely but picked up the doughnuts and put them in a paper bag and put the buns in another bag. Tracy paid her quickly and almost ran out of the door. Fatma was very much puzzled by her behaviour and decided to follow her outside and see where she was going.

When she reached outside the sight she saw brought tears in her eyes. Tracy had reached the old lady and was handing her over the bag of doughnuts. The old lady was thanking her and blessing her. After handing her the bag Tracy started to go on her way. Fatma ran after her.

“Hey,” she shouted, “come back here, I want to talk to you.”

Tracy turned around to see who was calling her. When she saw it was Fatma she was very much surprised and wondered why she wanted to talk to her. Nevertheless she stopped. Fatma beckoned her to come to her which Tracy did. Fatma took her inside the shop and turned to face her.

“I saw what you did there,” she said, “How would you like to work for me?”

Tracy stared at her in utmost astonishment! She was being offered a job!

Seeing Tracy’s bewilderment Fatma explained, “You see, I have just fired my salesman. How would you like to work for me? I saw that you are a kind giving person. I wanted someone like that to work for me. What do you say?”

    Tracy was delighted.

“Of course I would like to work for you,” she said, her eyes shining. “It will be my pleasure.”

And so Tracy went to work for Fatma. She got a job because of a kind deed she did.
